So, I just finished reading a book called SPUD. It is THE funniest book ever. And it takes a lot for me to laugh. But I was cracking up all the time! The book is based at an elite South African boarding school. It's a little bit of a coming-of-age story and about a 13 year old boy, nicknamed spud, for reasons that you'll find out if you read this book. The book colorfully illustrates his many adventures, (in words, not pictures) his girl excursions, and the touching relationship that develops between him and another boy.
I wouldn't reccomend this book for younger readers (aka elementary school kids). However, I think that all teenagers, even adults, would be able to connect with this book. The author, John Van de Ruit, is South African and has released a sequel to this book, Spud: the madness continues, but I'm not sure if this book is available in other countries besides South Africa. There will be a movie coming out, so I encourage all of you to read the book-soon!!
I found the book to be very unique in its own way, hilarious, of course, and touching.
A must-read!
